The Washington Capitals are looking to move on after last night's ugly 6-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, but the focus now shifts to goaltender Logan Thompson after being pulled from the game due to a scary collision with teammate Dylan Strome.
For those who missed it, as per House of Hockey, Thompson was hurt after accidentally being run into by teammate Dylan Strome immediately after Montreal's Juraj Slavkovsky slipped the puck past him for a 5-3 Canadiens lead in the 3rd period.
Strome inadvertently cross-checked Logan Thompson up high as he was attempting to stop from running into him. He remained down on the ice for several moments before being tended to by a team trainer, and he required the assistance of his teammates to help get him off the ice.
After the game, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin made himself available to the media, providing insight into the scary incident.
REPORTER: What were you thinking when Logan Thompson went down?
OVECHKIN: To be honest, I didn't see what happen. We have two good goalies... so, if anything happen, we always have backup. It's hockey, its aways a battle.
We knew they were going to come out hard. I think we played a solid first period, made a couple mistakes, but no one said it's going to be easy.
Despite the challenges of last night's incident, Alexander Ovechkin remains focused and confident, setting the tone for the rest of the team.
Given the severity of Logan Thompson's collision, it's unlikely he'll suit up for the next game.
However, as Ovechkin pointed out, the Capitals have full faith in Charlie Lindgren to step up.
Now, it's all about how the team responds heading into Game 4.
