Game 1 between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes is in the books, and unfortunately, the Capitals came up short in a heartbreaking 2-1 overtime loss. After the game, forward Aliaksei Protas met with the media and took accountability for the the defeat.

After a relatively easy series against the Montreal Canadiens, it's clear the Carolina Hurricanes are a different beast.
Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a beautiful snipe from Portas, Washington struggled to build any momentum the rest of the way.
The Capitals managed just 14 shots on goal, as the Hurricanes kept them at bay all night.
Head coach Spencer Carbery will need to make strategic adjustments in order to match Carolina's high-powered offence.
Even though Protas netted the Caps' only goal, he still placed the blame on himself for the final result.

«It's only the first game, but it's going to be a long series,» said Protas postgame. «We've got a second game on Thursday. We've got to be ready. It's only the start-frustrating, but we know we'll get better.
«One mistake from me and it cost us, like, cost us a win basically. We got to be better and me personally."

The Washington Capitals will look to bounce back from this tough loss and will no doubt be hard at work in practice today to address what went wrong
Game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes is et for Thursday at 7:00 PM ET.
More details to follow.
