The merry-go-round concerning Alex Ovechkin's final season with the Washington Capitals continues to spin, as the latest update reveals that 2025-26 will, in fact, be Ovi's final season.

Washington Capitals Public Relations Department had clarified that an email had, in fact, been mistakenly sent by a member of their corporate sales department, and that no final decision had been made at that time about Ovi's future beyond 2025-26.
The email was sent to season ticket holders on May 29, and has since been recanted by the Washington Capitals.
Many have speculated that the 2025-26 season would be Alex Ovechkin's last. He will, after all, be turning 40 years-old, and will be in his final contract next season, so to make such as assumption is not a stretch. The Washington Capitals seemed to have confirmed the speculation, however.
'OCTOBER - the start of Capitals hockey and Alex Ovechkin's FINAL NHL SEASON', the email read.
By breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record, Ovechkin accomplished one of sports' greatest feats. On April 6, 2025, The GR8 scored his 895th career goal, surpassing The Great One and becoming 1st all-time in the NHL for goals scored.
That alone is worthy of consideration for best NHL player ever.
Yet, Ovi brings more to the argument of NHL GOAT. His 897 goals are 1st all-time,1623 points 11th best, 3744 hits 3rd, 8684 shots 1st.
He's won a Stanley Cup, a Conn Smythe Trophy, 3 hart and Ted Lindsys and 9 Maurice 'Rocket' Richards. He is without a doubt, the greatest NHL goal-scorer ever.
Ovechkin was selected 1st overall in 2005, and played his first game in the fall of 2005, after a league-wide lockout. That year, he scored 52 goals and 106 points, good enough for the Calder Trophy for Rookie Of The Year, finishing ahead of Sidney Crosby, Dion Phaneuf, and goalie Henrik Lundquist in votes.
We're looking forward to the start of the 2025-26 season to see what else Alex Ovechkin accomplishes with his world-class talent.
