Forward Bogdon Trineyev is scoring key goals, and helping the Hershey Bears in the Atlantic Division finals of the AHL playoffs, while making a case for himself to make the Washington Capitals' roster in 2025-2026.
Trineyev, at 6'3'' and weighing 202 pounds, was a 4th round pick in 2010, selected out of Dynamo Moscow, Ovechkin's Russian team.
This year, Bogdon re-signed a two-way, one year contract, with an aav of $775k in the NHL, and $100k in the AHL.
Already an AHL Champion, Trineyev scored in 3 consecutive games in this year's AHL playoffs, the longest of his pro career, including an empty netter that helped clinch it for the Bears in the Atlantic Division Semi-finals.
"We could have really closed the game out with the 5 on 3 opportunity," Bears head coach Todd Nelson said, when asked about Trineyev's clutch goal. "You know, I was thinking, is this going to come back and hurt us. They made it a 1-goal game. I was just happy when Bogdon put it in the net."
The goal came after the Bears had squandered a 2 man advantage on the power play, and momentum had swung back to the Phantoms' side. The Bears would end up winning the game.
It was a clutch goal that Trineyev scored, which illustrates the kind of blue collar game he plays, ending up in the net with the puck, making the goal unique and memorable.
These are just some of the characteristics with which he plays, that have defined his AHL career.
The hard-nosed Russian Trineyev is hard-working, and wins battles with pure effort and dependability, thriving on the forecheck and cycle game.
"He does everything hard," coach Nelson said. "He shoots the puck hard. He skates hard. He plays the game hard. And I just think this year is a breakout year,"
Bogdon's dream of debuting in the NHL is becoming more of a possibility with each passing game in the AHL.
His hardworking, relentless forechecking are the kinds of skills that wins games, especially in the playoffs, and will get him extended looks at training camp.
Trineyev was helped along early in his career by
Aliaksei Protas, watching and absorbing how he carried himself as a pro, learning what it takes to compete and win in the AHL and NHL.
Protas was asked what advice he offered Trineyev.
"Just hard work and bring the positive atmosphere to the team. I think that's the most important thing."
It seems Bogdon Trineyev was listening to the Russian speaking, Belarus national, if his work ethic is any indication. And as far as role models go, Protas is a good one.
Bears will need Trineyev to continue scoring. They are 0-2 against the Checkers in the Atlantic Division finals.
