Important update on Washington Capitals defenceman Alex Alexeyev
Washington Capitals defenceman Alex Alexeyev made headline for all the wrong reasons last week. According to reports, Alexeyev was arrested and pepper-sprayed following a physical altercation/public intoxication incident that occurred in Arlington.
Now, new details regarding his arrest have come to light, and fans now get a better idea of what lies ahead for the defenceman.
Alex Alexeyev booked for court on June 11th
According to
RMNB, public records from the Virginia Judiciary reveal that Alexeyev is set to appear in court on June 11, facing a public intoxication charge. His offense is considered a Class 4 misdemeanor, which comes with zero jail time and, at most, a fine of no more than $250.
The first reporting of Alexeyev's run-in with the law came from ARLnow earlier this week. The 25-year-old defender was arrested after a fight in front of Big Tony's Pizzeria, across from the Clarendon Metro station.
The Russian rearguard was booked at the Arlington County jail at 4:19 am Saturday and later released. Alexeyev's booking photo showed him still missing several teeth due to a high stick he took in the mouth during the Capitals' first-round playoff series.
Unfortunately, this is a really bad situation for Alexeyev.
While it's good news that he won't have to serve any jail time, his future with the Washington Capitals organization is now jeopardized.
Alex Alexeyev stepped up in a big way following
Martin Fehervary's season ending kneww surgery and played a key role on the Caps' blue line.
Alexeyev is heading into the season as a restricted free agent (RFA), and it should be interesting to see how the Caps' front office handles this situation moving forward.
