Although this is nothing new, there having been some growing rumours regarding Alexander Ovechkin's future in the NHL.
It's no secret that Alexander Ovechkin has been extremely public about finishing his career in the KHL. Although he failed to bring home the Stanley Cup this season, finishing his pro hockey career in his home country would be a great ending to a legendary career.
Alexander Ovechkin has done it all. He's won several trophies, a Stanley Cup, and most recently, surpassed Wayne Gretzky for the all-time scoring record.

Spencer Carbery makes strange statement about Alexander Ovechkin's future in the NHL
Following last night's Game 5 elimination against the Carolina Hurricanes, head coach Spencer Carbery made himself available to the media, providing fans some insight as to what potentially lies ahead for the Caps' captain.
"Spencer Carbery said that, from what he understands, Alex Ovechkin will be back next year, since he is under contract."

According to Spencer Carbery, Alexander Ovechkin "should" return next season, but the clear uncertainty in his voice has sparked concern among fans.

He's already checked off nearly every milestone in his career, and it wouldn't be surprising if he's considering a full season in the KHL while he's still physically capable of competing at a high level.
