Lars Eller's 2024-25 season in review

There was a time when Lars Eller could score almost 20 goals in a season; he recorded 18, 13 and 16 over a three-year period on his first contract with the Capitals. This year, however, we saw a different Lars Eller altogether.

According to an RMNB Attributes rating card, Lars recorded Strength 2, Intelligence 4, Speed 6, Endurance 8, Personality 7, and Luck 2.

Eller's on-ice stats and percentages were not overly impressive either, having scored only 6 goals, though he was called upon for secondary scoring.

Lars contributed 9 assists in 63 games played, with 12 minutes of average ice time per appearance.
Lars' shot attempts were 54%, expected goals 54% and actual goals 45%, suggesting that he was not taking advantage of his scoring chances and opportunities. His Synthetic Goals, a rating that tracks a player's impact on the game when on the ice, was -0.2, not far off from being even.
According to Eller's Player Card by All Three Zones, compared to league averages, Lars had a positive contribution in only 3 of the 19 areas of the O-zone that is tracked: point shots/60, deflections/60, and cycle and forecheck/60.
In the neutral zone, Lars was more of a liability, and was a minus in all micro-areas, but controlled entries with chances %, where he recorded an unimpressive 0.01.
The area of the rink where Lars Eller was most effective, however, was the defensive zone. He was a positive contributor in almost all of the 14 micro-areas, with his strongest being defensive zone puck touches/60, exits with possession/60 and exits/60.
According to Player Card by Evolving Hockey, Eller's Overall rating was 29, Offense 19, and Defense 79, when compared to the league average.
Lars Eller recorded a score of 3.4 on an open survey conducted by RMNB, where they asked readers, 'On a scale of 1-5, how happy are you to have this player on the team'.
Lars was a dependable 3rd liner, with a defense-first attitude. In fact, Mangiapane and Raddysh were at their best when on the ice with him. In 120 minutes of playing time, the trio controlled 68% of the expected goals, and only the Hagel, Cirelli, Kucherov line, and the Hyman, Draisaitl, McDavid line did better, though the Caps' 3rd-line was miles behind in actual scoring and finishing.
