Ovechkin Holds Plans About Where He Will Play Next Season Close To HIs Chest
Alex Ovechkin is set to return to Russia at the end of May, that much is certain. Whether he will return to play in Washington next season, well, that much is not so certain.
"Sasha will fly to Russia soon, he will be in Moscow at the end of May," Agent Gleb Christayaklov reported to MatchTV. "There are certain plans, he will tell himself if he wants. I wouldn't want to advertise yet."
Well, it seems that soon has already arrived. In an Instagram Story Video, Nastya Ovechkin recorded Ovi's and the family's massive haul of bags and luggage they are taking with them on the flight, a haul not typical of a short trip.
Ovechkin's rigid training regiment has allowed him to play well into his 20 NHL season, and perform at a level only few can. At the age of 39, he scored 44 goals this past season, third-most in the NHL.
He is the NHL's all-time scoring leader, and has scored 50 goals or more in 9 seasons. Though there is always more that one can accomplish, Ovechkins' biggest achievements are second to none.
What more does he need to prove at the NHL level? Ovechkin has stated on numerous occasions that he wishes to finish his career playing for his hometown's Dynamo Moscow.
"So me and Pavel are going to do our best job to get ready for the season," Ovechkin said in a recent interview, about his upcoming training in Russia.
As for Washington's coaching staff and front-office, they are not ruling anything out when it comes to Ovi's future.
"I think we've learned with him to leave possibilities open all the time," President of Hockey Operations Brian MacLellan said. "We'll see where the future goes."
Again, Ovechkin has stated his priority is to stay healthy and begin training closer to the start of the season. Given the numerous hints he and his agent have made, where he will begin that season is cause for speculation.
