Shedding light on Alex Ovechkin's future with the Caps

It has been a very busy week for Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Speculation has been generated about Ovi's future with the D.C. club, especially following an error that was made in a Caps email that ignited the rumor mill.
On Friday, Russian outlet Arguments & Facts sat for an interview with Nastya Ovechkina, Ovi's wife, who said that after her husband plays next season he will return to Russia, where he will remain. The comment was taken as confirmation and picked-up by North American outlets.
The fact remains, however, that Ovechkin himself has not outwardly committed to anything beyond 2025-26. True, he has been clear about playing in the KHL's Dynamo Moscow; but nothing about when that will be.
"I haven't thought about it yet. but we'll see what's going to happen," Ovechkin said a few weeks ago during Breakdown Day. "I'm going to try to do my best to be able to do my best next year, and we'll see."
It is also possible, given Nastya's words had to be translated, that what she said was misinterpreted, or taken out of context. The Capitals did confirm, also, that neither the team, or Ovechkin have made a decision regarding his future.
Ovechkin will turn 40 year-old in September and is aware of concerns regarding his age and health, and has done what he'd hoped to do in the NHL, winning a Stanley Cup in 2018, and becoming the league's all-time, greatest scorer.
Of course, management remains open to 'all possibilities', the team has said, and is not ruling anything out when it comes to Ovechkin's future - Ovi has earned that respect.
Alex Ovechkin has given twenty-plus years to Washington, and has many other life considerations, and should not be hurried on this important decision. When Ovi is ready, so too will the Capitals be.
