The Washington Capitals season is unfortunately over, and GM Chris Patrick has his eyes set on strengthening the team following a crushing second-round defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes. That said, Patrick will have plenty on his plate - especially after expressing a willingness to make a big move for elite talent. That could mean defenceman Alex Alexeyev is on the trade block to help make it happen.

I think it's safe to say that defenceman Alex Alexeyev is in deep trouble.
Alex Alexeyev is a pending restricted free agent this offseason, but his latest drunken fiasco has jeopardized his future on the team.
Washington Capitals defenceman Alex Alexeyev made headline for all the wrong reasons last week. According to reports, Alexeyev was arrested and pepper-sprayed following a physical altercation/public intoxication incident that occurred in Arlington.
According to sources, if Chris Patrick were to make a trade this offseason, Alexeyev is mentioned as the likely player to be dished out.

Washington Capitals could trade Alex Alexeyev

According to Nova Caps, The 25-year-old appeared in just eight regular-season games but played in all 10 postseason games, where he notched a -2 rating, .4461 five-on-five Corsi-for percentage, .5401 five-on-five expected goals-for percentage, and .4787 five-on-five scoring chances-for percentage. While Alexeyev was thrown into a challenging position after Fehervary underwent surgery, it is going to be tough for him to crack the opening night lineup with seven other defensemen signed on the NHL roster for next season.
Like with Milano, the Capitals almost certainly would not get fair market value for Alexeyev if they traded him and are going to have to chew on the decision with what to do with him.
With Fehervary returning to the lineup and the lingering offseason drama, he stands out as the most likely trade candidate.
Whether that actually happens, we'll have to wait and see.
More details to follow.
