Washington Capitals sign Nic Dowd to extension

The Washington Capitals have announced that they've signed veteran 4th line Center Nic Dowd to a contract extension to remain with the team for a few more seasons.
According to the NHL, The Washington Capitals have re-signed center Nic Dowd to a two-year, $6 million contract extension, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Dowd's contract will carry an average annual value of $3 million.
Nic Dowd, 34, has been a stable presence on the Washington Capitals bottom-six all season.
This year, the 34-year old veteran has set a career high in points --- notching 14 goals, tallying 27 points through 81 regular season games.

Nic Dowd, who was set to become a UFA at the end of the season, has more than earned this new contract extension.
Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2009, Dowd has truly found his stride in the nation's capital, becoming a key piece of the Washington Capitals success.
Since arriving in Washington D.C., Dowd brought veteran leadership, professionalism, and an underrated scoring touch that's made him a valuable presence on and off the ice.
