Seattle Kraken come out with massive news
Lane Lambert was named the Seattle Kraken's new head coach, his second such opportunity as a head coach. The Kraken made the announcement Thursday night via their X account.
The sixty year-old Lambert will only be the franchise's third head coach in their brief history so far, replacing Dan Bylsma after just one season. Previously, Lambert was an associate coach on the Capitals' 2018 championship-winning team, then under coach Barry Trotz.
"After conducting an extensive search, we're thrilled to announce Lane as our new head coach," Kraken GM Jason Botterill said. "We cast a wide net for suitable candidates. What impressed us throughout the interview process was Lane's strategy and vision for his team. He was an integral part of the Capitals winning the Cup."
Lane spent the 2024-25 season as an associate coach with Craig Berube's staff with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Prior to that he served as head coach of the New York Islanders in 2022-23, and part on the next season, before he was replaced mid-campaign by Patrick Roy.
Lambert had a .559 winning percentage with the Islanders, and a record of 61-46-20.
"I'm so excited to become the head coach of the Seattle Kraken," Lamber said in a statement. "When it came time to writing a new chapter, I couldn't think of a better fit. Seattle is an incredible sports town, and I'm impressed by the energy of the fans...This team has a group of talented young players."
Mitch Love and David Quinn had also been interviewed by the Kraken for the bench boss job, who also had a good look at Rick Tocchet, before he was signed by the Flyers.
We wish Lane all the best with his new job with the Kraken.
