The Edmonton Oilers are once again the Western Conference champions, after defeating the Dallas stars in game five of their series, winning 6-3 in front of their fans at American Airlines Arena.

The outcome of the game was never really in doubt from early in the 1st period; Corey Perry scored on the powerplay at 2:31, while Mattias Janmark scored shortly after to make it 2-0, forcing Star's coach DeBoers to pull his goalie Oettinger in favour of backup Casey DeSmith.
Coming into the game cold, DeSmith was tentative, and allowed a goal within 58 seconds, to make it 3-0, Jeff Skinner's 1st playoff goal of his 15 year career, beginning a trend for the Stars of giving up untimely goals that would last all game.
"I didn't blame it all on Jake," Stars coach DeBoer said after the game. "But the reality is if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton. And we give up two goals on two shots in an elimination game...That's a pretty big sample size."

Jason Robertson answered with a goal, and 8:20 remaining in the 1st period, beating Oilers' Stuart Skinner post and in. Hintz would make it 3-2 with a powerplay goal of his own midway through the 2nd, but McDavid, on a picturesque breakaway, scored just 2:01 later to take back the 2-goal lead.
The Stars found some momentum only 38 seconds into the 3rd period, when Jason Robertson scored his 2nd of the game. But again, the Oilers answered shortly after, to quash whatever momentum Dallas had gained from the early goal.
"I thought we played well all five games, honestly," McDavid said. "Everybody stepped up, everybody made contributions. Fun group to be part of."

Following the game, McDavid help up the Clarence Campbell Bowl at center-ice, after receiving it from the NHL's Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daily, while Oilers players could be seen skating by and tapping the bowl.
Last year, when they won the Western Conference, the Oilers did not touch the bowl, believing it would bring bad luck, and lost in the finals to the Florida Panthers. This year, they all touched it, hoping to reverse their luck, and win the Stanley Cup against the Florida Panthers, the current champs.
