After writing his name at the top of the NHL's all-time goals list, Alexander Ovechkin now faces the next big question of his legendary career: When will he rerire?
Set to enter the final year of his five-year of $47.5 million deal next season, the Washington Capitals captain addressed his future during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show Monday.
«Well, I have one more year, and we'll see what's gonna happen,» Ovechkin said. «I love the team, I love being around the boys, and as long as I can, I will try to stick around and put my great body in the NHL.»
Alex Ovechkin admitted that how his body holds up between now and next season could ultimately decide for him.
«When you're young, it's one thing. But when you get older, it's a different thing,» he explained. «You have to prepare your body and your mind differently.»
Despite the questions, Alex Ovechkin remains a major contributor and with two games left in the regular season, he has 896 career goals and 1,621 points during 1,489 games, which is including 72 goals in 151 playoff game.
