Alexander Ovechkin brings prized possession home to Russia
The Washington Capitals season is officially done, and all the Caps' players are back home with their families and enjoying some well deserved time off. That said, Alexander Ovechkin is heading back home to Russia for the summer, but not without his most prized possession - his record breaking puck.
Towards the end of the regular season, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin made history, shattering Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record.
The milestone goal came against the New York Islanders, and fans traveled from far and wide to see the Gr8 Eight make history.
However, with the dust settling on the Caps' season, the captain plans to do some intense offseason training and indulging in his native country of Russia.
Alexander Ovechkin takes home record breaking puck
According to RMNB, A video of Ovechkin holding the milestone goal puck was later posted to the «Official channel of Alexander Ovechkin's Media Team» on Telegram
Ovechkin says in the video, per a Sports.ru transcription and a Google translation, «Hello everyone! Here it is, precious.»
It's unclear if Ovechkin brought home the record-breaking memorabilia just for the summer or for good. Ovechkin plans to eventually open a museum in his native Moscow featuring his own game-used memorabilia from his career and the extensive stick collection he has put together over the years.
Despite the disappointing end to the season, it's clear that Alexander is still basking in the glory - and rightfully so.
He's now heading to Russia as the greatest goal scorer of all-time, and I'm sure his fellow countrymen have something incredibly special planned for him upon his arrival.
