Following an excellent 2024-25 season, in which he led the Washington Capitals to finish 1st in the Eastern Conference standings, Logan Thompson himself finished 4th in Vezina Trophy voting as the league's best goaltender.

The personable Thompson actually finished just outside the three finalists for the 2025 Vezina Trophy, with one 2nd-place vote, and four 3rd-palce votes, the first ever votes of his career.
It was Winnipeg Jets' Connor Hellebuyck, however, that won his second-straight Vezina, including the 2025 Hart Trophy, as league MVP. The Vezina Trophy is voted annually by the NHL's 32 general managers.
The 28 year-old Thompson completed his first season with the Caps with a 31-6-6 record, including 2.49 GAA, .910 SV%, and 2 shutouts, and is under team control for six more years, on a contract worth $35.1M, which he signed in January.
According to Money Puck, Logan Thompson finished third in the NHL for goals saved above expected, with 26, with only Connor Hellebuyck (39.6) and Andrei Vasilevskiy (29.2) ahead of him.
Only three other Washington Capitals goalies have ever won the Vezina: Jim Carey (1996), Olaf Kolzig (2000), and Braden Holtby (2016).
Logan Thompson was traded to the Capitals from Vegas Golden Knights June 29, 2024, for 3rd-round picks in 2024 and 2025, and helped Washington rank 1st in GAA per game (2.37), and 1st in the NHL's Eastern Conference.
The stand-out Caps' keeper was undrafted after four years of junior in the WHL. He then played for Brock University in the Canadian University league, U Sports, where he posted an18-6-0 record, and was named rookie and goalie of the year in 2018-19.
As a result of his heroics in U Sports, Logan signed a 2-year entry-level deal with Vegas in the NHL, in 2020, and a subsequent 3-year contract in 2022.
Thompson has secured the starter position in Washington and is set as the team's future goalie.
