Cole Hutson is quickly emerging as one of the Washington Capitals' most thrilling prospects. At just 18 years old, the dynamic defenseman impressed in his freshman campaign with Boston University, showcasing elite offensive instincts at the NCAA level.

Cole Hutson announces who he's excited to play with on the Capitals.
Chris Cerullo from RMNB writes Cole Hutson, the Capitals' 2024 second-round pick, is set to return to Boston University for his sophomore year, but there's growing anticipation that he could join Washington's NHL roster shortly after that season concludes.
With that future drawing closer, Hutson recently appeared on Mike Bartner's In The Box podcast, where he was asked which current Capitals he's most excited to play alongside once he eventually signs his entry-level deal.
«I don't really know if there's one player. I think
Tom Wilson, just getting a chance to play with him, would be pretty cool. Obviously, he's a big guy, he's a fighter, and someone you need on a team for a guy like me that's not as big. If someone tries to kill me, he'll be the first guy to step in.» -Hutson
Cole Hutson witnessed Tom Wilson's impact up close during the Capitals' first-round playoff series against the Canadiens. He attended Games 3 and 4 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and experienced a direct view of Wilson's physical presence and leadership on the ice, especially how he protects his teammates and changes the tone of a game.
"In Game 3, Wilson and Habs forward
Josh Anderson had their viral brawl on one of the benches in the arena. A few days later, Wilson delivered a massive hit on defenseman
Alexandre Carrier that flipped the momentum of Game 4, leading to a 5-2 Capitals win and a 3-1 series lead that they never relinquished." -Cerullo
Cole Hutson is set to return to Boston University next season after an outstanding freshman campaign, during which he led all NCAA freshmen in scoring with 48 points (14 goals, 34 assists) over 39 games.
Having already claimed the 2025 Tim Taylor Award as NCAA Rookie of the Year, he'll now have his sights set on the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, given to college hockey's top player.
