The Washington Capitals eliminated the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win at Capital One Arena on Wednesday.
Despite coming out victorious in the series, Capitals head coach
Spencer Carbery had some nice words to say about the Canadiens future young talents.
Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery highly complimentary of Canadiens young group after series.
Chris Cerullo from RMNB writes that the Capitals wrapped up their first-round series against the Canadiens in just five games. Despite the brief series, the young Canadiens gave the top-seeded Capitals a run for their money.
"The Canadiens will likely use the series as a jumping-off point for a young core of stars that showed they can play with the best at the highest level possible in the NHL." -Cerullo
Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery used the first moments of his postgame press conference to hype up the Habs' future before even being asked any questions.
«Just want to congratulate the Canadiens organization as a whole and their team. Their path, it's a lot like what we went through last year. And it's just been impressive to watch from afar what they've done in the second half of the year with the young team. They obviously have a real, real bright future with a lot of good young players that are going to have real long, impressive careers in the National Hockey League.» -Carbery
Carbery went on to praise the Canadiens' young talent saying that their franchise is set for years to come.
«That top line and what
Lane Hutson has become this year, that's big time stuff in this league. As an opposing coach, I remember this when I was in Toronto against Tampa Bay with Kucherov and Point. You would have to set a whole game plan against that line. And when they got over [the boards] - you've got coaches, you've got players that are [going], 'Is it Kucherov? Is it Point?' Like trying to figure out who's coming out. It's the same way with Suzuki. And that's the ultimate compliment I can pay.» -Carbery
Although the Capitals only needed five games to close out their series, Carbery also added that the Canadiens found a way to challenge the Capitals in every game despite the results.
«To me, that wasn't a 4-1 series. I don't know if Marty (Martin St. Louis) said that, but we found ways to win some of those games. They pushed us in every single one of those games. And so a huge congratulations to them and their organization. Marty did a phenomenal job with that team.» -Carbery
Next up for the Capitals in the second round are the Carolina Hurricanes. The Metropolitan Division rivals also advanced in five games, sealing their series against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. The schedule for their series has yet to be released by the NHL.
