The Carolina Hurricanes really put the pressure on the Washington Capitals in the opener of the Metropolitan Division Final on Tuesday night.
Even while playing on the road against the Eastern Conference's top regular-season team, the Hurricanes showed no lack of confidence, and were rewarded with no mandatory practice on Wednesday.
Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind'Amour prioritizes rest for his team ahead of Game 2 tomorrow against the Capitals.
The Hurricanes will not practice today following their Game 1 overtime victory from the night before, indicating a heavy confidence with their play heading into Game 2 today.
No morning skate for the Hurricanes tomorrow. Rod Brind'Amour and staff are really leaning into rest.
Carolina allowed Washington to get just 14 shots on goal, the second-fewest surrendered in their team's history.
Capitals goalie
Logan Thompson stopped 31 shots for Washington, who were stuck defending in their own zone for long stretches, a role reversal that drained energy from the Eastern Conference's top seed, a team more used to applying pressure than withstanding it.
Carolina is still flawless on the penalty kill this postseason, stopping both of Washington's power plays to go 17-for-17 overall. Combined with Kotkaniemi and Stankoven capitalizing on a miscue and Slavin scoring with Jarvis providing a screen, that proved to be the difference in the game.
While the Hurricnaes decided to take the day off, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery may be forced to shake up his lines after a horendous outing from his troops. It's time to get back to the drawing board for Carbery and the Capitals.
Game 2 is set for Thursday night at 7:00pm from Capital One Arena in Washington.
