Charlie Lindgren's 2024-25 season report card
Goalie Charlie Lindgren began the 2024-25 season as the presumed favorite to start between the pipes, but ended the year as the backup, sitting at the end of the Washington Capitals' bench and watching his partner Logan Thompson start games for the Capitals.

Lindgren finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 20-14-3 (31st in the NHL. a save percentage of .894 (35th) in 39 games played, and a GAA 2.73 (26th).

At the end of the 2023-23 season, Lindgren's save percentage was .911, good enough to be considered for the starter position. Then Logan Thompson arrived from Vegas just under a year ago, and created the 1a/1b dilemma that many other other teams face in today's NHL.
By January, Logan Thompson had distinguished himself as the better, and undisputed starting goaltender. Yet, despite Thompson's dominance in net, coach Carbery continued with the 1a/1b experiment late into the season, a decision that was covered by the media at length.
At the end of the 82 game season, Logan Thompson finished with 28 more games saved above expected than Charlie Lindgren, showing how much more effective, and essential to the team, Logan was, and is still.
Charlie Lindgren will have to improve if he expects to bring value to his 3-year, $3M AAV contract, which begins next season. He will be the 34th highest-paid goalie in the NHL.
According to statisticians, high-danger save % is considered a strong indicator of future-season performance. Lindgren will need to improve his .731 rating and play above the league average of .816, if he expects to take back the Washington net.
