The Dallas Stars fire head coach Pete DeBoer
Just now, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman announced that the Dallas Stars have fired head coach Pete DeBoer.
I think it's safe to say that everyone saw this coming from a mile away.
After a disappointing performance against the the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final, the Dallas Stars have officially decided to part ways with their bench boss.
Dallas Stars fire head coach Pete DeBoer
Pete DeBoer has always been an elite head coach in the NHL.
He's made it to the Western Conference Finals in three consecutive seasons and also took the San Jose Sharks to the Stanley Cup Finals back in 2016.
While he's always had deep playoff runs, he's failed to get over the hump in terms of a Stanley Cup Championship.
This decisions comes after Pete Deboer's handling of goaltender Jake Oettenger in Game 5 against the Edmonton Oilers.
After allowing two quick goals, Pete DeBoer pulled Jake Oettenger in a shocking fashion, sending out backup
Casey DeSmith in relief.
DeBoer was further scrutinized in his postgame press conference as he seemingly took no blame for the loss, hinting that the defeat ultimately fell on the players shoulders.
"We had talked endlessly about trying to play with the lead. And obviously, we were in a 2-0 hole right away," DeBoer told reporters after the game. "I didn't take that lightly and I didn't blame it all on Jake.
"But the reality is if you go back to last year's playoffs, he's lost six of seven games to Edmonton, and we gave up two shots on two goals in an elimination game. So, it was partly to spark our team and wake them up. And it was partly knowing that the status quo had not been working. That's a pretty big sample size."
It should be interesting to see if Pete DeBoer lands another coaching job for next season.
