The Washington Capitals were recently eliminated from the NHL postseason, and the team has their eyes set on winning the Stanley Cup next season. That said, head coach Spencer Carbery made some strategic adjustments to his roster before Game 5, moving forward Connor from his usual wing position to center - a seamless transition that worked out.

While being eliminated in just 5 games at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes wasn't the results the Washington Capitals had hoped for, there are so many reasons to feel optimistic.
One of them being Connor McMichael, who elevated his game to new heights this season and stepped up to the plate when Spencer Carbery threw him into unfamiliar territory.

Connor McMichael wants to switch positions

The Washington Capitals are doing their final interviews today before heading off for some well deserved time off with their families, but Connor McMichael threw one last curve ball to the media.
According to McMichael, he's willing to make the permanent switch to the center position from the wing.
As per Sammi Silber, McMichael has made it clear that he wants to change positions, but the decision ultimately resides with head coach Spencer Carbery.
Additionally, McMichael expressed his desire to stay with the Washington Capitals longterm.
After reaching a career high in points this season with the Capitals, i'm sure management is keen to keep him around for a very long time.
«Really comfortable, I think,» McMichael said of moving back to center. «I played a couple games there this year and there's been shifts where I've been plugged in just with guys in the box or whatever it may be. I played that position my whole life, so I think it's going to be pretty seamless for me. It's something even in practice a few times this year I jumped in line rushes up the middle just to stay fresh.»

According to the NHL, the 24-year-old enjoyed a breakout regular season, with an NHL career-high 57 points (26 goals, 31 assists), which was sixth best on the Capitals, and a plus-19 rating in 82 games, nearly doubling his 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 80 games last season.
More details to follow.
