The Washington capitals are preparing for their playoff showdown against the Montreal Canadiens tonight, but the team and its fans were met with somber news off the ice involving long time colour commentator Craig Laughlin.
In a heartfelt update shared on social media, Laughlin revealed that he's been dealing with some challenges recently.
On the advice of his medical team, he will be stepping away from the broadcast booth for an indefinite amount of time to focus on his recovery.
Hey #Caps fans. Unfortunately I haven't been feeling 100%. My cardiology and medical team have advised me to miss a few games. I'm so disappointed to step away from the booth again, but I can't wait to rejoin our

Craig Laughlin to step away from the booth
According to RMNB, Laughlin, who underwent successful open-heart surgery weeks ago to repair a bicuspid aortic valve and a blocked left anterior descending artery, is taking time off to recover.
It's an unfortunate situation, but entirely understandable.
Recovering from open heart surgery is a serious journey, and Caps fans everywhere are surely wishing Locker a smooth and restful recovery. His presence will be missed, but his health comes first.
After the surgery, locker wrote:
Laughlin wrote, «Hey Caps fans! Thx so much for the love, support, prayers & well wishes. Open heart surgery is no joke & the hardest thing I've ever done. But I am looking forward to heading home tmrw and continuing on my road to recovery and coming back stronger than ever #lockerstrong❤️»
