The Washington Capitals season has officially come to an end, but forward TJ Oshie is stealing headlines as he sent shockwaves down the NHL with his recent "announcement" coming up on Monday.
I think it's safe to say that TJ Oshie will always be one of the most beloved members of the Washington Capitals organization.
He's always been a dependable offensive producer and was an integral part of the Washington Capitals glorious Stanley Cup run in 2018.
That said, lingering back issues have taken their toll, and Oshie was sidelined for the entire 2024-25 season.
TJ Oshie plans to make announcement Monday
According to
Athlon Sports, The Washington Capitals revealed that
T.J. Oshie will make a «special announcement» at the Washington Harbour in Georgetown on Monday, June 9, at an event open to the public and scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Though the team did not specify the nature of the event, Pioneer Press' Jess Myers reported that Oshie is expected to officially announce his retirement.
"Former @WarroadHShockey and @UNDmhockey star TJ Oshie, a 2018 Stanley Cup champion with the Capitals, is expected to announce his retirement on Monday in DC," Myers posted on X.
While the announcement of his retirement remains purely speculative, all signs point to the end of his career in the NHL.
Recently, TJ Oshie appeared on the ESPN panel during the Western Conference final, hinting that Oshie is exploring different opportunities off the ice.
However, it should be interesting to see what Oshie has to say.
Regardless, whatever Oshie decides, I'm sure the Washington Capitals faithful will back him up 100%.
