Upper Deck drops major Alex Ovechkin announcment

Alex Ovechkin became the NHL's Goals King on April 6, after he scored his 895th career goal against New York Islander's goalie Ilya Sorokin. As you can imagine, pretty much everything connected with the historical achievement will be marketed in one way or another.
Shirts, hats, pucks, pucks with game-used ice, Funko Pops, signed photos, bobbleheads, and now Upper Deck trading cards with pieces of the ceremonial carpet.
Upper Deck, the NHL's exclusive trading card partner, plans to cut up the carpet from Ovi's NHL on-ice ceremony at the UBS arena, and will be available in the upcoming product release, called 'Alex Ovechkin 895 Hobby Set', UD announced on social media.
The goals-setting ceremony took place after Ovechkin scored career goal 895, and featured Ovi, his family, Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, and Capitals owner Ted Leonsis.
The navy blue carpet has a thin red border, and features Alex Oveckin's name, his chase logo, and the number 895.
The relic cards have received mixed reviews from collectors, with some appreciating their historical relevance, and others wondering why anyone would want a piece of a carpet that was only used for 22 minutes.
Obtaining memorabilia from the historic, record-breaking moment has been extremely difficult, as Ovi's equipment and milestone puck are already in Russia, headed for his future museum in Moscow, the Hockey Hall of Fame, or auction houses.
The product release date and price has not as yet been revealed by UD, and will follow the company's previous campaign, called GR8 Moments, available on the UD e-pack platform.
The e-pack exclusive product features moments from throughout Ovi's career on cards, numbered parallels of those cards, and rare autographed parallels.
Upper Deck makes it possible for you to pull cards available in e-products, and then choose to have the digital card converted into a physical one and shipped right to your door, bringing collectors closer to the action and the sport's biggest moments.
