Joe Beninati who traveled to New York with the hope of calling the game shared that he's been advised to rest his voice in preparation for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
«Traveled to NY, hoped to work, but barely unpacked. Sadly, I've been advised to rest my voice tonight so that I should be full go for Game 1 of playoffs,» Beninati posted on X.
He also thanked John Walton and analyst Alan May for adjusting their schedules to cover the broadcast in his absence in the last NHL game of the year for the Washington Capitals.
Joe Beninati won't miss the Capitals' season finale in Pittsburgh on Thursday either, as Monumental Sports Network isn't covering that game.
Beninati has been the voice of the Capitals for nearly three decades by narrating some of the franchise's most iconic moments from the early rebuild years to the team's Stanley Cup run in 2018.
This season has been especially memorable with Alex Ovechkin's record-breaking goal-scoring milestone standing as a historic moment both for the league and the broadcast team.
Alongside color analyst Craig Laughlin, Joe Beninati has provided passionate, detailed and often poetic play-by-play that has helped define the fan experience for a generation of Caps supporters.
He and the Monumental Sports Network crew have followed every milestone, every twist in the playoff race, and every big Ovechkin goal with unmatched energy and heart.
As the Capitals head into the postseason, fans will be eager to have Beninati back in the booth for what could be another unforgettable run since the veteran broadcaster is now eyeing a full return for Game 1 of the playoffs, where the Capitals will look to build on a strong finish to their regular season.
