The Washington Capitals are looking to reset and respond tonight as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets in a critical rematch at Capital One Arena.
Coming off a 7-0 loss in Columbus and holding a 3-5-1 record over their last nine games, Spencer Carbery made it clear how much is on the line.
«Tonight is a massive game for our hockey team.»
With playoff positioning tightening and recent performances raising concern, the Capitals know they need to show some urgency and especially with just a handful of games remaining before the beginning of the playoffs.
On the injury front,
Logan Thompson who was out with an
upper body injury returned to the ice this morning and was taking a positive step toward a potential return.
However, the forward
Aliaksei Protas who had on his side a lower body injury remains unavailable and has yet to resume skating.
The good news for Washington is that Alex Ovechkin is expected back in the lineup after not playng Saturday's game for rest.
His return could give the Capitals the emotional and offensive boost they need in this pivotal matchup right before the NHL playoffs.
Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET. against the Columbus Blue jackets who are one loss away to being out of the playoffs.
