Less than 48 hours after a frightening collision that forced him out of Game 3, Logan Thompson was back between in the net for the Washington Capitals in Game 4.
Logan Thomspon was knocked out by teammate Dylan Strome late in Game 3 and appeared to be dealing with a lower-body injury as he exited the ice and he was struggling to put weight on his left leg.
However while speaking to the media Sunday night, he clarified that the primary concern had been his head.
«I kind of got my bell rung a bit there,» he said. «You know, scary. I think it definitely could have been a lot worse.»
He already was recovering from an earlier head injury and he missed the last seven games of the regular season after taking a puck to the mask, but Thompson had to clear additional protocols before being cleared to play Game 4.
He admitted losing his balance getting up after the hit added to the concern but was thankful things weren't worse.
«But coming back from an injury, I had to do some protocol,» he said. «I kind of lost my balance getting up. But luckily things were okay, and I'm able to play. But thankful that it wasn't worse, because it definitely, I think, looked a lot worse than it was.»
There were no hard feelings toward Strome either since Logan Thompson called the incident an unfortunate hockey play by noting he misread the situation.
«Stromer was back-checking, I didn't read the play well, and I got caught with my head down, and unfortunately, Stromer didn't see me there,» he said.
«It's a crappy play to be a part of, and it wasn't intentional. Just thankful that I'm able to play today.»
For the Capitals, having Logan Thompson healthy and sharp could make all the difference as the playoff pressure intensifies.
