Mike Sgarbossa Signs With HC Lugano Of Swiss National League

Mike Sgarbossa is leaving North America to play in Europe, where he signed a two-year deal to play for HC Lugano of the Swiss National League.
The signing was announced on Friday, by the SNL's HC Lugano club. Sgarbossa will be joining former Capitals D-man, Connor Carrick.
"Mike Sgarbossa is a playmaking center with great experience," Lugano's general manager said in a press release. "He's a skilled and charismatic player who fits perfectly into our team and the National League. I look forward to welcoming him to Lugano."
News of the signing was reported on the Swiss Sport's site La Gazzetta Del Ticino back on May 8 during the Bears' opening round of their playoff series versus Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and was confirmed at the Giant Center during Breakdown Day by Mike himself.
It seems, however, that Sgarbossa was not happy when, and how, the news of his signing with Lugano was revealed.
"I was just thinking about playing, and then when the rumor came out, I was disappointed," Mike said. "But I tried not to let it affect the team or my game...We wanted to announce it once [the Hershey Bears] were done here."
Mike Sgarbossa signed with the Caps during the 2018-19 season, appearing with the NHL team five of seven seasons.
Most of his success, however, came with the Hershey Bears, utilized mainly as a 1st-line center. In his first year with the Bears, Mike Sgarbossa posted career high in goals (30), and points (65), and recorded 40 or more points in 4 of his 7 years in Hershey.
The hard-working center was a member of the 2023 Calder Cup championship team.
"It was a difficult [decision]," Mike said. "I mean, I've been here for seven years. My family, my kids were born here. We've been comfortable here, everyone's been great. We don't have a bad thing to say about Hershey or the Washington organization. Everyone's treated us awesome."
