Mitch Marner to the Washington Capitals? It could happen
The Washington Capitals season is unfortunately over, and the team now turn their attention to the offseason for some blockbuster moves. That said, the Toronto Maple Leafs is also done, and GM Brad Treveling will hands his hands full this offseason, particularly with superstar forward Mitch Marner.
Simply put, Mitch Marner is one of the most talented hockey players in the NHL.
The "Magician" Mitch Marner is heading into the offseason as a UFA, and teams around the league are poised to shoot their shot regarding acquiring the superstar forward?
Well, what about the Washington Capitals? In a recent press conference, GM Chris Patrick admitted he'd be willing to take a "big swing" this offseason, and he has the opportunity to scoop up the disgruntled phenom from Ontario.
Washington Capitals could acquire Mitch Marner
Marner was named to Canada's roster for the 4 Nations Face-Off during the 2024-25 season. He scored 6:06 into overtime to give Canada a 4-3 win against Sweden in the opening game Feb. 12. He reached 100 points in a season for the first time in his NHL career when the Maple Leafs defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 at KeyBank Center on April 15.

According to Sportsnet, the Caps had an incredible season that ended in second-round disappointment. Alex Ovechkin is back next year for his age-40 season on a contract that runs out in July, 2026.
Maybe he's back for more, maybe that's the end.
Either way, the offensive engine of this team is leaving soon and it could use Marner now to help get over the hump with Ovi still playing and later to make sure the scoring doesn't dip too much when the greatest goal-scorer of all-time hangs 'em up.
The Caps would need a bit of salary maneuvering to make this happen, but nothing crazy.
Is this the year the Capitals go for it?
