The Capitals defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 in overtime in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series.
After breaking the all-time goal record earlier this month with his 895th career goal against the Islanders, Ovechkin showed no signs of slowing down on Monday scoring the opening goal of the game and the game winner in overtime.
Ovechkin has recorded 74 goals and 69 assists in his NHL playoff career in 152 postseason games.
