It's not so often a trade works out for both teams, but that is exactly what happened with the trade between the Washington Capitals and Los Angeles Kings last offseason which happened one year ago today back on June 19th 2024.
The trade a year ago was a reunion of sorts for Kuemper, who had previously played for the Los Angeles Kings in the 2017-2018 season before a trade sent him to the Arizona Coyotes.
In his first season back with the Los Angeles Kings, Kuemper had a resurgence after a lackluster season in Washington, playing in 50 games during the regular season and recorded a 31-11-7 record, with a .922 SV%, 2.02 GAA, and was named as a finalist for the Vezina Trophy.
In the playoffs Kuemper would go 2-4 with a .889 SV% with a 3.74 GAA falling to the Western Conference champion Edmonton Oilers. While in Washington,
Darcy Kuemper would go 86-35-10 in his 90 games between two seasons with the Capitals.
Pierre-Luc Dubois also would have a career resurgence following the trade, as a change in scenario was exactly what Dubois needed. Pierre-Luc Dubois would go on to play in all 82 regular season games for the Washington Capitals with 20 goals, and 46 assists on the season. Improving on his 16 goals, 24 assist effort in his lone season with the Los Angeles Kings.
Dubois would only muster 3 assists this past season in the playoffs for the Washington Capitals, but proved to be a valuable asset for years to come for the Capitals.
Quite a win-win trade for the Washington Capitals and the Los Angeles Kings from one year ago today that has and will benefit both for years to come.
