Spencer Carbery first coach in history to receive this honor

The Washington Capitals organization has just added to their successful 2024-25 season, by boasting of the NHL's best coach. Spencer Carbery was awarded the Jack Adams Award for Coach of the Year, and is the 1st in history to win such an award with three different leagues.
The announcement was made by the NHL on social media. The Jack Adams Award is presented annually to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to the team's success, and is selected by the NHL Broadcasters.
Carbery is the 4th Washington Capitals coach to win the award. Bran Murray won it in 1983-84, Bruce Boudreau in 2007-08, and Barry Trotz in 2015-16.
Carbery, however, becomes the first to capture Coach of the Year honors at the ECHL, AHL, and NHL levels, a trifecta not easily accomplished, that requires a level of dedication and poise that only few coaches possess.
Carbery, a second-year coach, was the runaway winner with 81 1st-place votes of the 103 ballots cast, good for 464 voting points.
In his first year behind the Caps bench, 2023-24, Carbery improved his team's point total by 11 points. This year, he increased the total by an impressive 20 points, the 3rd largest such gain, behind only Columbus (+23) and Anaheim (+21).
In 2013-14, then with the ECHL's Stingrays, Carbery won the John Brophy Award for best coach, and in 2020-21, he won the AHL's Louis A.R Pieri Memorial Award, for coach of the year honors with the Hershey Bears.
The 2025 NHL Awards is a one-hour special that premiere's on Thursday, June 12th at 6pm on TNT in the US, and Sportsnet in Canada, before game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, highlighting all NHL award winners for this season, including Carbery.
