Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery wins the Jack Adams Award
It's official - Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery has won the Jack Adams award - a prestigious award given to the best coach in the NHL.
When Spencer Carbery was initially hired as head coach of the Washington l think fans had tempered expectations.
As a young a coach taking on a challenging role on a veteran team, Carbery came into the NHL without any hesitation or fear.

According to the NHL, the Capitals, whose opening night lineup featured seven new players, ranked second in the NHL in goals for (286) in 2024-25 after ranking 28th in 2023-24 (216). Washington also ranked tied for eighth in the League in goals against per game this season (2.79), making them one of seven teams to rank in the top 10 in goals for per game (3.49, 2nd) and goals against per game.
In addition, the Capitals ranked first in the NHL comeback wins (25), tied for second in road wins (25), tied for third in goal differential (+56) and tied for fourth in penalty-kill percentage (82.0).
The Washington Capitals finished first in the Eastern Conference this season, making it all the way to the second round of the post season.
While the Capitals didn't get the results they had hoped for, Spencer Carbery is leading is pioneering a new wave of young, skilled coaches entering the league.
I think I speak for all fans when I say Carbery commanded the respect of his team since day one, and it should be incredible to watch where he takes this team next season.
