With the Washington Capitals officially set to face the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, head coach Spencer Carbery is shifting into playoff mode and is responding to information.
Before Thursday's regular-season finale against Pittsburgh, Spencer Carbery offered brief injury updates on goaltender Logan Thompson and forward Aliaksei Protas but signaled that it may be the last time he does so.
When pressed about when Logan Thompson might be ready to ramp things up, Spencer Carbery gave a typically playoff-style response:
«I'll be honest with you, after today, you will not get much from me on the injury front,» he said. «And, I can't really give you anything other than he'll just continue to progress and you'll see him practicing and one day, all of a sudden, he will be in the lineup, in warmup, and we'll see where it goes from there.»
Logan Thompson hasn't played since suffering an upper-body injury on April 2 against Carolina and though he's resumed skating and traveled with the team, he'll miss his seventh straight game Thursday.
Former Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau suggested on Monumental Sports Network this week that Charlie Lindgren is likely to get the start in Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens.
As for Aliaksei Protas, the forward has been sidelined since taking a skate to the foot on April 4 and t'll mark his sixth straight absence after a career-best season that saw him post 66 points which is including 30 goals.
The Capitals may be bruised, but they're playoff-bound and Carbery's poker face is officially on.
