TJ Oshie takes stage today to make special announcement, while Ovechkin speaks-out in Turkey about his future
Today is a busy day for TJ Oshie and the Capitals, as the ex-Cap and 2018 Stanley Cup champion will be on stage at Washington Harbor to make a 'Special Announcement'.
You can watch coverage of the free even on the Monumental Sports Network, beginning at 5pm, an event that will include fan installations and giveaways from 5pm - 7pm, and, of course, Oshie's announcement at 5:30pm.
Speculation suggests that Oshie will be making an official announcement about his retirement from the NHL, after a 16-year career, nine of which were with the Capitals, where he scored 192 goals and 193 assists in 567 games.
In other Capitals news, it is worthy to note that Ovechkin is officially on vacation in Turkey, according to Hockey News, and will have number of meetings while there, including an important one with KHL president, Alexei Morozov.
The purpose of the meeting with Mr. Morozov is unclear at this time, and leaves room for speculation about whether playing in the KHL at some point is an agenda item.
Following his trip to Turkey, Ovi will begin his training regiment, which has not changed for years, and nor should it, given his success. He will train with longtime trainer Pavel Burlachenko and will return to the ice on July 13, to play in the 2nd annual 'Match of the Year' game in Russia, an NHL versus KHL all-star game.
Also for the Capitals, expect GM Chris Patrick to make some moves
on defense, for depth mainly, as their lack of it was made apparent when
Martin Fehervary was injured and the team struggled to plug the hole on the blue line.
The Capitals GM will also be focused on shoring-up the 3rd line, as he will need to bring in a winger, and promote
Connor McMichael to the desired center role, though
Hendrix Lapierre will receive his due consideration for a spot on the 3rd line.
Stay tune as more news becomes available.
