Tocchet named next head coach of the Flyers

Rick Tocchet to be named the next head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tocchet was linked to the Flyers almost immediately after John Tortorella effectively stepped down in March. While speculation briefly died down, it resurfaced after Tocchet confirmed he wouldn't be returning to the Canucks.
The Philadelphia Flyers have found their new bench boss.
David Quadrelli from the Canucks Army writes that Rick Tocchet holds an all-time coaching record of 286-265-87 over nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Arizona Coyotes, and Vancouver Canucks.
He was initially brought in by Vancouver to replace Bruce Boudreau and went on to guide the team to its first division title since the 2012-13 season during the 2023-24 campaign.

The 2024-25 season proved to be a challenging one for Tocchet and the Canucks, though team president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford praised Tocchet highly for his leadership in steering the team through what he described as a dysfunctional and unusually turbulent campaign.
The Canucks ultimately missed the playoffs, finishing with 90 points and a 38-30-14 record, placing fifth in the Pacific Division and 18th overall in the league standings.
Tocchet steps into a situation he knows well with the Flyers, who are still in the midst of their rebuild but have clear aspirations of emerging from it in the near future.
As with his previous roles in Arizona and Vancouver, Tocchet takes over a forward group featuring a young, foundational talent in Matvei Michkov, supported by veteran leaders like Sean Couturier and Travis Konecny.
