The Washington Capitals are locked in on their quest for another Stanley Cup, but some fans are already looking ahead to the NHL offseason. With a deep pool of talent set to hit free agency, veteran forward Brad Marchand is poised to become a UFA - and GM Chris Patrick might explore the possibility of bringing the former Boston Bruins legend to D.C.

37-year-old Brad Marchand made a bold move at the trade deadline, leaving Boston for Florida in pursuit of another Stanley Cup.
The Bruins endured a disastrous season, leading the organization to commit to an aggressive rebuild - a shift that ultimately meant parting ways with their longtime captain.

Washington Capitals could pursue Brad Marchand in the NHL offseason

Although Brad Marchand got off to a slow start with the Florida Panthers, he's gradually finding his groove and making an impact at precisely the right time.
While he's proven to be a valuable addition to the Panthers lineup, his acquisition was always viewed as more of a rental.
There's little doubt Marchand will test the open market this offseason as an unrestricted free agent (UFA).
Could a veteran like Brad Marchand entice Washington Capitals general manager Chris Patrick?
This season, Brad Marchand carries a cap hit of $6.125 million AAV, but he might be open to taking a significant pay cut to join a team like the Capitals.
The opportunity to play alongside an NHL legend like Alexander Ovechkin would no doubt be an intriguing prospect for him.
In a recent interview, Marchand was asked about his thoughts on hitting free agency, where the veteran emphasized the importance of focusing on the present.
«I'm not worried about next year at all,» Marchand said on April 1. «In this game, in this league, you need to take every day and enjoy it. You never know when you're going to get an opportunity to be on a team like this again.»

While hunting down a proven winner like Brad Marchand sounds intriguing, I believe it's unrealistic for the Capitals.
The Washington Capitals are loaded with high end-prospects such as Ivan Miroshnichenko, Ilya Protas, and Hendrix Lapierre, all whom make a strong case to crack the starting roster next season.
Will Chris Patrick delay the emergence of his future prospects to hunt down Brad Marchand? Time will tell.
