Washington Capitals invite unexpected player to development camp
The Washington Capitals are unfortunately done, playing hockey for the year and turned their attention to the off-season. Just now, the Washington Capitals announce an unexpected player to join development camp, none other than Montréal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis' son, Ryan.
Well, this was totally unexpected.
Interestingly, the Washington Capitals faced off against Martin St. Louis' team, during the first round of the postseason.
Now, it appears that general manager, Chris Patrick is taking a gamble on his son, Ryan St. Louis.
Washington Capitals invite Ryan St. Louis to development camp
According to RMNB, The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward has led the Brown University Bears in scoring in both seasons at the school. He recorded 29 points (11g, 18a) this past year in 23 games, was an honorable mention on the All-Ivy League Team, and was a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award, handed out to New England's best American-born college hockey player.
Ryan, 21, was previously part of the US National Development Team Program before heading to Northeastern University for the 2021-22 season.
He then spent the 2022-23 campaign with the USHL's Dubuque Fighting Saints before playing at Brown the last two years.
This is an unexpected, and quite frankly ironic development for the Washington Capitals.
While the team has an exciting list of prospects set to make the jump to the big leagues next year, it doesn't hurt to promote internal competition within the organization.
Although Ryan St. Louis is an undrafted player, he does possess unique abilities that would be a great asset to the organization.
This should be an interesting development to watch. Both the Montréal Canadiens and the Washington Capitals have developed a heated rivalry over the past month, and it should be amazing to see how Ryan St. Louis develops within the Caps system.
Congratulations to Ryan St. Louis on this well-deserved NHL recognition.
We will provide more details as they become available.
