Breaking news in Capitals Nation: The Washington Capitals organization has re-signed forward Spencer Smallman to a two-way, two year contract extension.
Well, it appears that
Spencer Smallman has cemented his role in the Capitals organization for the next couple of seasons.
After a strong regular season with the Capitals farm affiliate in Hershey, Smallman has earned himself a solid contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level (the league minimum) and $380,000 in Hershey.
Washington Capitals re-sign Spencer Smallman
While his last name may be Smallman, his style of play is anything but.
The veteran forward has bounced around a fair amount during his eight years in professional hockey, but he's found a home in Hershey.
Smallman has played for seven different teams over the past eight seasons, often struggling to secure a permanent roster spot.
Fast forward to now, the 28 year old veteran has impressed the Washington Capitals front office, posting a career high in points and assists over the course of the 2024-25 season.
This year, Smallman notched 9 goals and 24 assists and was a -5 rating on the ice.
Smallman's career began back in 2015 when the Carolina Hurricanes selected him in the 5th round of the NHL entry draft.
This contract extension is a significant one, to say the least.
Smallman's impressive offensive play has propelled the team to new heights, helping the Bears become the first AHL team to clinch a spot in the 2025 postseason.
The Bears will aim continue their dominance as they strive to secure their third consecutive Calder Cup.
