The Washington Capitals are gearing up for their first playoff matchup against the Montréal Canadiens tomorrow, but that hasn't stopped general manager, Chris Patrick from making some splashes heading into the postseason.

Just now, the Washington Capitals announced they have re-signed prospect Bogdan Trineyev to a one-year, two-way contract.

Washington Capitals lock-down Bogdan Trineyev

Although fan focus has been primarily on the playoffs starting tomorrow, Washington Capitals GM Chris Patrick continues to impress with key signings to bolster his farm affiliate in Hershey.
According to RMNB, Trineyev, selected by the Caps in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, recorded 22 points (14g, 8a) in 62 games for the AHL's Hershey Bears this year. He set new career highs in goals, assists, and points in his second full season with the Bears.
Coach Nelson of the Hershey Bears spoke highly of the young Russian during last year's development camp - hinting at a potential future in the big leagues.
«He's played on - I hate to say first, second, third, fourth line - but our fourth line was the guys that got us the winning goal in Game 6, right?» Nelson said. «And they played a huge role because they all killed penalties, and Bogdan was a big part of that.

«We were joking, Patrick Weller runs the penalty kill, and he said to Bogdan one day, he goes, 'I think you're probably the only Russian penalty killer that I've seen.' But he's an intelligent player.»

While Trineyev will continue honing his skills in the minors, he'll gain valuable experience in high-pressure situations as the Hershey Bears pursue their third consecutive Calder Cup.
If Trineyev keeps trending upward, there's no doubt we'll be seeing him in the NHL before long.
More details to follow.
