The Washington Capitals are currently battling the Montreal Canadiens in their first-round matchup, but injuries have taken a serious toll on the roster. One of the key players sidelined is defenceman Martin Fehervary, and the team has just released an official update on his status.

INJURY UPDATE:

Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary sustained an injury to his right knee during the April 15 game against the New York Islanders. Fehervary underwent a successful surgical procedure yesterday to repair the meniscus and will miss the rest of the playoffs.

According to sources, defenceman Martin Fehérvárry has successfully completed surgery stemming from an awkward collision during the April 15th game against the New York Islanders.
Although Martin Fehérváry managed to finish that game, he was sidelined for the regular season finale against the Pittsburgh Penguins and has since been receiving ongoing medical attention.
Now, his absence from practice makes a lot more sense -- the knee injury he sustained was significant. As a result, the Belarusian blue-liner will be sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs.
According to TSN, The 25-year-old had five goals and 25 points while playing in 81 games with the Capitals this season, averaging 19 minutes of ice time.
Fehervary has 22 goals and 75 points in 299 career games, all with Washington. A second-round pick in the 2018 draft, he is signed through next season at a cap hit of $2.675 million.
According to RMNB, Alexander Alexeyev has filled in for Fehervary at the last few practices, including yesterday's game agaisnt the Montreal Canadiens.
Alexeyev has been skating on the Capitals' third pairing with Trevor van Riemsdyk. Alexeyev played in three of the last four games of the season after only playing in five games prior.
