We now know who the next NHL franchise will be
The NHL is the most rapidly expanding league in professional sports, and the City of Atlanta has emerged as the next candidate to earn an expansion team.
According to
Daily Faceoff, Forsyth County, a suburban area to the northeast of downtown Atlanta, voted to approve the concept of a $3 billion mixed-use entertainment complex that would include an NHL arena.
The complex, which would be called The Gathering, along with what is now the most realistic bid to bring the NHL back to Georga, are spearheaded by Vernon Krause and the Krause Group.
City of Atlanta earns NHL expansion consideration
Rumors within hockey circles have long identified Atlanta and Houston as prime candidates for NHL expansion.
Both cities boast thriving sports cultures, state-of-the-art arenas, and untapped fan bases eager for a taste of professional hockey. Atlanta, in particular, presents a compelling case for a NHL franchise.
After a failed season in 2010-2011, the Atlanta Thrasher were bought by True North Sports and Entertainment Group and relocated to the City of Winnipeg and established the Jets 2.0 era.
The NHL's expansion plans are gaining momentum, and while the exact timeline remains uncertain, the league's trajectory is clear. Atlanta has emerged as the early frontrunner, while Quebec City faces an agonizing wait for its NHL dreams to come to fruition.
Personally, I think it's a great idea to give the city of Atlanta one more crack at an NHL team.
Since 2010-2011, the game of hockey has evolved so much, and Georgia based sports fanatics are chomping at the bits for their turn enjoy hockey once more.
