The Washington Capitals often share photos of their players arriving at the arena before games, dressed sharply in suits and striking confident poses for the camera, offering fans a glimpse of their polished, professional image.

However, before Game 1 against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Capitals posted a photo where the spotlight wasn't on the players, and it quickly caused a buzz on social media.

Why are Capitals players' fixated with a silver spoon upon their arrival for Game 2?

Ian Oland from RMNB writes that as Brendon Duhaime and Pierre-Luc Dubois stepped into the locker room, both fixated their gaze on a spoon. Dubois held the utensil with a puzzled expression, while Duhaime appeared mesmerized, as if the spoon held a mystery, a secret technique, or perhaps traces of an unforgettable meal.
Home hockey on the mind
On Wednesday morning, RMNB's Katie Adler asked Duhaime about the now-viral spoon photo. The gritty forward, however, wasn't spilling any details, refusing to give up the scoop.
«You and Dubois were walking in with a spoon? What was up with that?» -Adler

Duhaime then responded with a pretty defensive approach.
«I didn't see that one. I don't know about that one. I didn't see that.» -Duhaime

Adler also writes that it's worth noting that this isn't the first time Duhaime has left us hanging on crucial intel. Earlier this season, when asked why the team was barking in the locker room, the fourth-liner kept things just as cryptic, offering no explanation and only deepening the mystery.
«Yeah, I think we're just keeping that one in-house. Yeah, we've got to keep it quiet, right?» -Duhaime

Adler then suggested thaat the logical next step would be to ask Dubois directly. But with Game 2 fast approaching, the decision was to put a lid on this investigation, for now. After all, the last thing the Capitals need is for 'spoon-gate' to become a playoff distraction.
"We'll just surmise they were hungry for goals. Case closed." -Adler

Game 2 goes Thursday at 7:00pm from Capital One Arena.
