The Capitals' main offseason priority will be adding forwards to replenish the depth they're set to lose.

They already made significant changes last summer, and those moves have paid off. With many of those key additions under contract for several more seasons, there's little need, or room, for another major overhaul this summer.

Three players the Capitals should target this summer.

Rob Couch from NHL Trade Rumors writes that Taylor Hall showed he's still capable of making a strong impact. While he may not be the star he once was, he found his scoring touch again and put up impressive numbers after joining the Carolina Hurricanes.
"If Carolina doesn't bring him back, Washington will be looking for some players to sign to shorter deals while many of their prospects work their way into the NHL. Hall would have a spot on the third line and second power-play unit and I don't doubt he would play up to expectations in that role." -Couch

Why not bring Marcus Johansson back for a third stint in Washington? He's consistently been a solid contributor during his time with the Capitals. Though he's a veteran nearing the end of his career, Johansson still delivered steady production in his role with the Minnesota Wild this season.
"Johansson had 11 goals and 34 points in 72 games and could be between the third and fourth line for the Capitals on a cheap deal where they know what they're getting. It is a lower risk add around the edges and the two sides are familiar and have liked their time together." -Couch

Couch also writes that Yanni Gourdee would be a strong fit for the Capitals' physical style of play, especially with a vacancy at third-line center expected after Lars Eller's departure. Gourde brings offensive upside, reliable two-way play, and a championship pedigree.
"The Capitals made a lot of great offseason additions this past summer and Gourde would be another great choice to highlight the 2025 offseason." -Couch

These decisions will eventually come down to how well the Capitals do throughout the rest of their playoff run.
