Former Conn Smythe winner and Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews has decided to come out of "retirement" and will make a comeback attempt in the 2025-26 NHL season with the Winnipeg Jets.

Jonathan Toews who was selected out of North Dakota in the 2006 NHL draft 3rd overall in the 1st round by the Chicago Blackhawks last played in the National Hockey League back in 2023 when he stepped away to focus on his health after developing symptoms related to coming down with long covid.
In his career, Jonathan Toews has 372 goals and 511 assists in 1,067 career games with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Winnipeg Jets are coming off of winning the Presidents Trophy for the best team in hockey, only to falter in the playoffs due to the so called «Presidents Trophy curse». In the playoffs the Winnipeg Jets would lose in six games to the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference second round series.

Former Conn Smythe winner to play for hometown team

For Jonathan Toews, it is not a surprise to see him lacing it up for the Jets. Toews was born in Winnipeg, and playing for the Winnipeg Jets gives Jonathan Toews the chance to finish off his career on his own terms for his hometown Jets.
The deal for Jonathan Toews is reportedly for one-year $2 million contract that could potentially balloon to $7 million based off of possible bonuses.
With Jonathan Toews playing for the Chicago Blackhawks out in the Western Conference the Washington Capitals would only see him twice a year, but in 23 games played versus Washington Jonathan Toews had 11 goals and 10 assists to go along with a -2P/M.
Washington Capitals fans may remember Toews best when the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Washington Capitals 8-5 in a game back on January 20th 2019 where Jonathan Toews would have a hat trick.
