The "Gr8 Chase" has finally reached its epic conclusion. Moments ago, Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin netted his 895th career goal, surpassing legendary Wayne Gretzky for the most NHL goals.
With the world watching, Alexander Ovechkin rose to the occasion and delivered.
Following Friday night's victory against the Chicago Blackhawks, Alexander Ovechkin buried two goals, tying the "Great One" in dramatic fashion.
While the hat trick opportunity was there, Alexander Ovechkin refused the empty net goal, claiming he'd rather break the record the right way by scoring on a goaltender.
This afternoon against the New York Islanders, Alexander Ovechkin accomplished what many once thought impossible -- 895 NHL goals.
