The Washington Capitals' are gearing up for a matinee showdown against the New York Islanders, and captain Alexander Ovechkin looks to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record, That said, the Capitals will be without forward Aliaksei Protas, who exited Friday's game after suffering a scary injury from a skate blade. According to head coach Spencer Carbery, new reports confirm that Protas will be out indefinitely and is considered week-to-week.

For those who missed it, Washington Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas was involved in a freak collision with Chicago Blackhawks Wyatt Kaiser, whose skate made contact with Protas, slicing his left foot.
After the incident, Protas immediately hunched over in pain and had trouble weight bearing. He was escorted down the tunnel with help from his teammates.
Aliaksei Protas was later seen in the locker room with a bandage wrapped around his foot, walking with a noticeable limp.
During a postgame press conference, head coach Spencer Carbery reported that Protas would be "evaluated" the following day. Now, we finally get a clear understanding of the extend of Protas' injury.

With the playoffs set to begin two weeks from today, this is definitely bad news for the Washington Capitals.
Protas was cut on the foot with a skate blade in the third period on Friday. Playoffs likely start two weeks from today for the Capitals.
As of now, Protas will be out indefinitely on a week-to-week basis, and analysts aren't exactly sure if he'll be ready on time for the postseason.
Protas has been a top performer for the Washington Capitals all season, posting 30 goals and 36 assists.
Hopefully, Protas is able to make a full recovery.
