Breaking news in Caps' Nation: Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin just scored his 891th goal, inching closer to Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record.

History is currently in the making.
The Washington Capitals are currently taking on the woeful Boston Bruins, and Alexander Ovechkin wasted to time to get on the score sheet.
Following a beautiful short handed goal from Nic Dowd, the "Great 8" decided to get in on the action, finding the back of the net just two minutes after.

Alexander Ovechkin scores his 891th goal

At 15:43 in the 1st period, Alexander Ovechkin found himself wide open as the Boston Bruins surprisingly left him unmarked.
The beautiful power-play goal was quarterbacked by defenceman John Carlson, who blasted a strategic shot on net.
The puck deflected to Dylan Strome, who then delivered a perfect pass to Ovi, and the "Great 8" made no mistake burying it.
What a beautiful play!
With this goal, Alexander Ovechkin inches one step closer to Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record.
Now, for those who haven't been following the "great chase" Wayne Gretzky AKA "The Great One" holds the current NHL scoring record with 894 tallies.
With less than 10 regular season games left in the season, Alexander Ovechkin still has plenty of runway left to make history.
The Washington Capitals and the B's are still duking things out in the 1st period -- so don't be surprised if Alex Oveckin manages to bury a few more tonight.
