Andrew Mangiapane takes puck to the face
According to sources, early in the first period, forward Andrew Mangiapane took a puck to the face off a deflected shot from a Carolina Hurricanes player.
In hockey, the face is one of the most vulnerable areas, and impacts like that can easily result in broken teeth, facial fractures, cuts, or even concussions in more serious cases.
Mangiapane has been a steady contributor on the Caps' bottom-six all season.
With the Hurricanes coming in as one of the higher scoring teams in the NHL, the Caps' will need him back in the lineup to help generate depth scoring and keep pace offensively.
We will provide updates on Andrew Mangiapane as soon as we can.
Hopefully, he can get repairs in the locker room and rejoin the fight in the second period.
